Marco and friends at the recent World of Coffee in Copenhagen where they cheered Steven Morrissey of Ireland to win the most coveted prize in the coffee industry ‘World Barista Championship’.

Stephen becomes the eighth World Champion with Scandinavia providing 5 previous winners and the U.K. and Australia one each.

Stephen defeated 51 other countries with an incredible display of barista skills and demonstrated his huge amount of coffee knowledge. Ireland previous best position was two years ago with a very credible 15th place. Stephen began his coffee journey working for Emmet and Enda Young in the Rio Coffee Company before moving onto Bewleys in Grafton Street where his extensive training continued. He travelled extensively to further his coffee knowledge and has worked with some of the most respected figures in the coffee industry. Stephen is now working in London in Square Mile Coffee Company with last years WBC Champion James Hofmann. Their roastery is now open and is due to open a café shortly. The coffee Stephen used in Copenhagen was sourced and roasted by Square Mile Coffee and was acknowledged by the judges as being superb.
